Part of the Transmission and drivetrain guides.

Driveline vibration and clicking are among the hardest faults to trace because the cause can sit anywhere from the gearbox to the wheel. These guides cover CV joint diagnosis and boot protection, driveshaft phasing, balance and U-joint angles, and wheel hub fitment including ABS compatibility.

CV joints and axles

Clicking on turns, vibration under load and torn boots are the classic CV symptoms. These guides cover diagnosis and fitment.

Driveshafts, U-joints and center bearings

Phasing, angles and balance decide whether a driveline runs smooth at speed.

Wheel hubs and bearings

Hub assemblies carry the wheel and often the ABS sensor. Fitment and diagnosis matter.

Frequently asked questions

What causes clicking when turning?

A worn outer CV joint is the most common cause, particularly when the noise is worse on full lock. Confirm by inspecting the boot for splits and checking for play before replacing the joint or the whole axle.

Should a wheel hub be replaced as an assembly?

On most modern vehicles yes. The bearing, hub flange and often the ABS sensor ring are supplied as a sealed unit, and pressing a bearing into a worn housing often leads to a repeat failure.
