Part of the Suspension and steering guides.

Most suspension repairs start with a noise and end with a parts list. These guides put the diagnosis first: isolating the noise, reading tyre wear, checking components under load, and avoiding the installation mistakes that cause the same fault to return.

Noise and clunk diagnosis

Where a suspension noise comes from and how to isolate it before replacing parts.

Wear, failure and tyre patterns

Tyre wear patterns are the most reliable evidence of a specific suspension fault.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a suspension clunk?

Reproduce it at low speed over a known bump, then inspect with the vehicle on a lift and the suspension loaded. Check sway bar links, strut mounts, ball joints and control arm bushings in that order — they are the most common sources.

Should suspension parts be replaced in pairs?

On the same axle, usually yes. Dampers and springs are matched, and replacing one side changes the balance of the vehicle. Bushings and joints can be replaced individually if the opposite side is inspected and sound.
